The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada will honor Drake, Jessie Reyez, Maestro Fresh Wes, and Peter Peter at the 2026 SOCAN Awards. The event is scheduled for October 26 at the Rebel nightclub in Toronto, according to an announcement from the organization.

Who is receiving awards?

The ceremony will recognize more than 100 Canadian music creators and publishers. Notable honorees include:

  • Drake: Songwriter of the Year in the performer category for the fifth consecutive year.
  • Jessie Reyez: International Achievement Award for representing Canada globally.
  • Maestro Fresh Wes, Anthony Davis, and Peter Davis: Cultural Impact Award for the 1989 hit "Let Your Backbone Slide."
  • Peter Peter: Global Impact Award for original music in the series Heated Rivalry.

Why does Drake's recognition matter?

Drake’s upcoming honor highlights his significant influence on the music industry. SOCAN cited his “unmatched influence on music worldwide” as a reason for the award. This follows a record-breaking year where his triple-album release set several Billboard records, including the most No. 1s by a solo male artist.

Last year, the rapper became the most-awarded songwriter in the history of the organization after collecting six honors in a single evening. While he has reportedly declined to submit solo material for Grammy consideration recently, his impact remains central to the Canadian music community.

What else is happening at the ceremony?

In addition to the major honors, several other creators will be recognized. Jenna Andrews will receive the songwriter of the year award in the non-performer category, and Andrew Lockington will be named screen composer of the year. Breakout awards will also be presented to Jade LeMac and Nathan Micay.

The event will be hosted by Arisa Cox and Andrew Phung. The full list of winners is expected to be released on the evening of the ceremony.
