CHICAGO (AP) — Artyom Levshunov scored 1:37 into overtime and Patrick Kane set the NHL record for most assists by a U.S.-born player as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 on Thursday night.

How did the overtime winner come together?

Kane carried the puck into Winnipeg's zone and dropped it to Connor Bedard, who fed Levshunov. The defenseman moved up the middle and snapped a shot past Jets goalie Stuart Skinner on the glove side.

"Good pass by 'Bedsy' and a good goal by me," Levshunov said. "That's it. Simple, simple."

The goal came about 40 seconds after Blackhawks goalie Spencer Knight kicked out his left pad to stop Neal Pionk on a two-on-one rush. Knight finished with 31 saves.

Kane passes Housley

Kane's first-period assist was the 895th of his career, moving him past Phil Housley for the most by a U.S.-born player. Kane added a second assist on the overtime goal for the Blackhawks (3-5-0).

Bedard scores first of season

Bedard opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:11 of the first period, his first of the season. Chicago's new captain missed the first six games while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and had an assist in his season debut Tuesday against Pittsburgh.

  • Frank Nazar and Ryan Donato also scored for Chicago.
  • Bedard added an assist on the overtime winner.
  • Pionk had a goal and two assists for Winnipeg (4-1-2).
  • Kyle Connor and Alex Iafallo also scored for the Jets, and Skinner made 24 saves.

Iafallo tied it at 3 when Pionk's point shot went in off his shin 5:39 into the third period. Coach Jeff Blashill said the overtime result was a step forward for a team that struggled past regulation last season.
