The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating several homicides reported across the city over one weekend, including fatal shootings in Uptown and in the University City Division. Detectives are handling each case as a separate investigation, and no arrests have been announced.
What happened in Uptown?
On Sunday, Oct. 25, officers were called to a stretch of North Caldwell Street close to the Spectrum Center shortly after 12:40 p.m. Off-duty officers in the area had heard gunfire and went to check, according to police accounts.
They found one person with multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel declared the victim dead at the scene. Police have not released the person's name or described a possible suspect.
What do we know about the University City case?
A second killing brought homicide detectives to the University City Division on Saturday night. Officers went to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on Altliff Court, in the 10000 block, at about 11:03 p.m.
They found a victim with apparent gunshot wounds, and Charlotte Fire pronounced the person dead on site, the department said. Crime scene specialists processed the location for physical evidence, and detectives said they were not seeking any additional involved parties. Detective Fitch is the lead investigator, and the case number is 20261024-2303-04.
How many killings were reported?
The two shootings came after two other homicides earlier in the weekend, according to WCNC, which reported that the later deaths occurred on opposite sides of the city.
