Winnipeg's Burton Cummings Theatre will host five nights of Winnipeg Folk Festival programming, beginning with JP Hoe's 20th holiday show on December 11 and 12 and running through Ruby Waters on April 1, 2027 and Angine de Poitrine on April 6 and 7. The series was announced this week.
Why you should go
- A two-decade holiday tradition. JP Hoe's annual festive performance marks its 20th year, offering music and special guests that have become a seasonal staple in the city.
- A rising songwriter up close. Ruby Waters, an artist who grew up in rural Ontario and currently lives in B.C., brings soulful alternative pop to a theatre setting.
- A rare double bill. Angine de Poitrine plays two nights, the only Winnipeg stop on a 2027 world tour that covers 13 countries.
- A breakout act. The masked Québec duo won both the Polaris Music Prize for Vol. II and the SOCAN Polaris Song Prize for "Fabienk," the first act to take both at one ceremony.
- A familiar room. All five shows are at the same 364 Smith St. venue, so one trip downtown covers the whole series.
